Good Morning, Agent Owners!

AI polishes the resumes. McKinsey supplies the fake clients. Somehow, humans are still the ones being tested.

McKinsey Makes Candidates Debate AI

TL;DR: McKinsey is adding an AI client simulation to interviews for some entry-level consulting applicants in North America. Candidates face a roughly ten-minute conversation with an avatar playing different client personalities, testing how they handle difficult questions and think on their feet. Human assessors evaluate the interaction, while the avatar itself does not score applicants. The pilot could expand. Read more →

Opus 5.5 Clones Microsoft Office

TL;DR: After cloning Adobe’s creative apps, developer Brandon Thomas has released free, open-source replicas of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Built in Rust with Claude Opus 5.5, WordCraft, GridCraft, and DeckCraft support Microsoft Office file formats and mimic familiar interfaces. But all three remain in alpha, with substantial functionality and reliability gaps before they can replace Office. Read more →

Perfect Resumes Are Frustrating Recruiters

TL;DR: AI is making job applications easier and resumes so polished that recruiters struggle to tell candidates apart. Employ’s 2026 report found one-third of recruiters cited AI-enhanced resumes as their biggest stressor, with one-click applications adding to the flood. Paradoxically, better recruiting tools have reduced overall stress for a second straight year, even as hiring activity rises. Read more →

Backup Disaster Delays TV4 Premiere

TL;DR: Swedish broadcaster TV4 has postponed the November 22 premiere of reality series The Challenge until spring 2027 after a production company’s backup system failed. Aftonbladet reported that an AI agent deleted the edited footage, allegedly destroying hundreds of days of work. The production team must now re-edit the entire season from scratch. Read more →

Richmond Wants AI Answering Most Calls

TL;DR: Richmond, Virginia, wants its agents to handle 50% to 60% of nonemergency calls, up from just 19.3% last fiscal year. The system currently transfers most callers to human dispatchers, despite costing more than $52,000. Officials aim for at least 25% by January, while council members question reliability and whether residents realize they are speaking to AI. Read more →

Zambrero CMO Warns of AI Sameness

TL;DR: Bronwyn Heys, CMO of Australian Mexican fast-food chain Zambrero, warns that marketers accepting AI’s first output risk producing indistinguishable campaigns. Speaking at Sydney’s humAIn conference, she urged a “human sandwich” approach: people set the strategy, AI speeds up execution, and humans return to challenge and refine results. She argues strong branding still depends on human judgment and creativity. Read more →

UK Chases AI, Neglects Aging IT

TL;DR: Britain's parliamentary spending watchdog warns the government is racing to embrace AI while leaving outdated IT systems vulnerable to cyberattacks. Public Accounts Committee chair Geoffrey Clifton-Brown says only 6% of civil servants work in digital and data roles, against a 10% target. Meanwhile, fraud and errors cost taxpayers £55–81 billion annually, and one IT overhaul has reached £3 billion. Read more →
